About me

Writer, early riser, keeper of houseplants — documenting a slower way of living, one Sunday post at a time.

Portrait of Mara Larkspur in soft natural light

Hello, I’m Mara.

Five years ago I was answering emails at midnight and eating lunch over the keyboard. Then a winter of enforced rest taught me what my body had been trying to say for years: slower is not the same as less.

Larkspur Dispatch is the journal I started to keep myself honest. Here I write about five o’clock mornings, shelves cleared with love, gardens that forgive neglect, and the small creative rituals that make an ordinary week feel like a life.

I live in the Pacific Northwest with two unruly houseplants, a shelf of half-read novels, and a kettle that is almost always warm. Everything on this site is written by me, photographed on walks, and published on Sundays.

Slowness first

I’d rather publish one honest essay than five hurried ones. This site runs on Sundays and seasons, not algorithms.

Use what you have

Every ritual here starts with what’s already in the cupboard — spare minutes, old notebooks, yesterday’s light.

Ordinary is enough

No transformations, no before-and-after miracles. Just paying closer attention to the life already in front of us.
